Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis penerapan New Public Management (NPM) dalam tata kelola perguruan tinggi di kota Palembang serta implikasinya terhadap kinerja institusi. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan desain studi kasus pada empat perguruan tinggi berakreditasi unggul dan sangat baik. Data dikumpulkan melalui wawancara mendalam, observasi dan studi dokumentasi, kemudian dianalisis menggunakan model interaktif Miles dan Huberman. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penerapan NPM pada perguruan tinggi di kota Palembang berada pada kategori baik hingga sangat baik terutama pada aspek orientasi kinerja, akuntabilitas publik, transparansi pengelolaan dan efisiensi pelayanan. Perguruan tinggi berakreditasi unggul cenderung memiliki tingkat internalisasi NPM yang lebih matang dibandingkan perguruan tinggi berakreditasi sangat baik. Faktor pendukung utama meliputi komitmen pimpinan dan sistem informasi manajemen, sedangkan hambatannya adalah resistensi terhadap perubahan dan keterbatasan kapasitas SDM. Penerapan NPM berdampak positif terhadap perbaikan tata kelola, kinerja akademik dan daya saing institusi. Penelitian ini menegaskan bahwa NPM relevan sebagai pendekatan reformasi tata kelola pendidikan tinggi apabila diterapkan secara kontekstual dan seimbang dengan nilai-nilai akademik.
